Can someone just summarize Taking Charge of Your Fertility in a paragraph? Don't want to take temperature or anything dramatic or labor-intensive. Thanks.

    • Have sex when you have egg white discharge. But, that being said, you'll miss out on a whole lot of the value of the method by not reading the book and taking temps. It's a no brainer once you get the hang of it.

      • +1. I pretty much knew when inwas ovulating for #2 w out doing anything (got preg in cycle just before we were going to start trying - ie, charting etc again) but NO WAY would I have known had I not done it w #1. Was so easy anyway. If your not willing to roll over and take your temp every morning before uou get out of bed in the morning and be more aware of the consistency of your own vaginal discharge, your probably nowhere near ready for a newborn yet anyway....

    • Temping is really not "dramatic" or labor-intensive. I got the book, read it cursorily (the parts that applied to me, first time TTC), started temping, and got pregnant the first month trying - twice! Its really basic.

      • same here. Temping is easy, not a drag. Actually kind of interesting--and super effective.

        • super DUPER effective and will pinpoint a pattern the MD's could miss for 6 months. I was very resistant to temping, probably more than anyone on here. I felt it was my only hope. I learned so much and have had a 360 degree turnaround. plus 2 kids. TEMP!! TEMP!!!!

          • A 360 degree turnaround gets you back where you started. You meant a 180.

    • Just have sex every other day. Sperm live in your body for a couple of days. It won't matter when you ovulate.

    • If the most you're willing to put into this is reading a summary of a book on UB, just go ahead and have regularish sex for a while and see what happens?

    • 1st time preg every time - what I did: sex every 3 days (sperm lives for 3 days) and sex every day when I saw the cervical mucus (egg whitey stuff) and peed on ovulation test strips to confirm... So se every day for about 3 days at that time (ovulation test always came back positive the day after the cervical mucus started, confirming ovulation). Totally hassle-free IMO.

      • Sperm can live up to 5 days, but the best thing to do is have sex every other day if you are not going to do anything else. Btw, ovulation prediction tests do not confirm ovulation. They only tell you that you are gearing up to ovulate. Ovulation *usually* occurs within 24 hours of your first positive test. Therefore, it is expected to be positive the day *before* you ovulate. The only way you can confirm ovulation is by temping and it only tells you after the fact.

    • when you go to the bathroom, start paying attention to the wet spot on your undies. if you have the TCOYF book already, go to the page with the pictures of cervical mucus. gross, yea, but informative actually. create a beautiful and lasting relationship with your mucus and get to know it really well. the rest will happen on its own...

    • The lazy but more expensive way -- use ovulation prediction tests. Pee on the stick. When it's positive, have sex.

    • i hardly call it labor intensive to take your temp or check cervical mucus. These are the only ways you can actaully know if you are fertile, something every woman should know. read the book

    • Just buy the clearblue easy fertility monitor and pee on it every day. Have sex when it is a high fertility day.
