    • Honestly, make your own. KEP is cute, but actually overpriced for the materials used. Go to a bead store, pick out what you like, find some info on the internet about how to string and attach a clasp, and voila. Other option:Keep your eyes open for street vendors who sell jewelry. I've bought some similar stuff on Third avenue in the high sixties / low seventies and often see vendors set up on Fifth avenue in the teens and 20s (although probably not until it warms up a bit).

        • Sorry, no idea. I've never done it myself, but there is a "bead district" somewhere in Manhattan.... think it's in the forties on the west side. I'm sure you can dig up more info via Google.

    • I have never heard of KEP Designs, but I just googled the company. You can find thousands of necklaces like that on eBay for less than $30. If you can DIY, you can save even more money.

        • OR: I just searched for "turquoise bead necklace" and found a few nice chunky necklaces for $8.99. I'd search for whatever material you're looking for: pearl, coral, turquoise, whatever and then set the upper price limit to limit the number of items returned.

    • Are you in the city? If so, keep an eye on the street vendors - they can have great stuff. Also, the market in the church on Mulberry Street on weekends always has great, unusual pieces. I've bought my favorite pieces of jewelry there.

    • Love the look, but I agree with others, think KEP is overpriced. Anthropologie has several nice options right now, Kate Spade has some reasonably priced pieces, Devon Baer makes great things, Loren Hope has lots, and possibly Jennifer Miller.

    • TJ Maxx has the best stuff in their jewelry department. The metal is usually 14k or sterling and the stones are semi-precious. I find that if you have decent enough taste to weed out the junk, you can find some pieces that look just as nice as the costume jewelry at Bergdorf Goodman or Saks.
