Any fashion moms on? I ask because my BIL is about to engage the services of a professional matchmaker for a good deal of $$ and DH and I are a little concerned about the guy's legitimacy. His website looks ok, though it appears like this is a very new venture with no track record. The only thing I can glean from it is that he has hired a PR specialist from the fashion industry so I'm wondering if this guy is known is those circles. I'm not in NYC and can't do my own due diligence and don't want to see BIL get burned again. Google "Richard Easton" and matchmaker if you're curious.

    • Never heard of him. I've worked in fashion for 30 years. Does your BIL need a matchmaker? What is wrong with him? Can your dh just go out with him and play wingman? Did he try match and eharmony?

          • He is one scary looking piece of work. I'd be so nervous about sharing my contact info with him!

      • Yes, he's done eHarmony and Match. He's handsome and has money, but left to his own devices he hooks up with crazy women: au pairs looking for greencards, real estate agents with restraining orders out against them, flight attendants with pill addictions. He truly needs the services of a pro, but I just don't want him to spend a fortune and not meet someone suitable.

        • Come on, you can help him out. Can he join a club? Is he in NY? Soho house?

      • His name is richard easton. I just have a weird feeling about it. I wish I could set him up myself, but the women I know are all kind of nerdy, New Yorker-readers and he's sort of looking for a more sporty, fun-loving girl who will go to Vegas, Bahamas, etc.

        • Haven't heard of him. I interviewed with a matchmaker called elove today and have the contract in hand, but something doesn't feel right. They quote a bunch of laws like they are only allowed to give you 5 dates per year and they don't allow you to view any profiles before signing up. any way, just tell him to be careful. GL!!!

    • Watch out! Different, but my MIL paid somebody $10K to set her up... and the few dates she got were totally not what she was looking for (20 years younger than her, etc.)

      • Yeah, this is exactly what I'm afraid of. He's really serious about finding a wife at this point, so I don't want him to get hurt and discouraged and give up all together.

    • Not in fashion biz, but took a look at site. Does your brother really want to be "matched" by someone who has an 80's-type Jordache/Calvin Klein Jeans photo and two animals in mating position on his home page? Looks like your brother is going to get more of the same crazies he was getting on his own.

      • Thank you for your perspective. I had this sinking feeling when he mentioned it and your response confirms my fears. BIL is an eligible guy, but I think the heart of his problem is bad judgement and this kind of crystallizes that.

    • Match.com and eharmony have plenty of women that would be appropriate for him. So, he doesn't need some matchmaker who claims to tap into a hidden pool of women. What he does need (I'm guessing) is some guidance with the process -- which girls to pick, how to write his profile, how to get through the first date, etc. A dating coach. Can you and DH play that role? Someone else you can connect him to? I'm DH, and I'd do it for fun.

      • Good idea. Maybe I can gently steer him away from this approach and offer to do a profile for him.

        • Just read the thread and not sure if BIL ever did use Richard Easton. I own a small matchmaking boutique, been in business since June 09 and ask every woman that registers with us if they have used match or eHarmony. Only about 20% have so it is a different pool of women. And I actually have a few clients that are the type that are drawn to the wrong girls and have hired me to present them only with fun, active, quality women. And I offer a monthly fee--on other upscale matchmaker does.
