How many of you live in a 2 bedroom apt with 2 kids? We love our place, it's 1150sq ft, great layout, great location and I really don't want to move. Pregnant with #2 and DH is worried we are going to outgrow it quickly. Seems like all our neighbors with similar apts sell when they have #2 (often to suburbs which I really don't want). How long can I realistically cope? Don't know gender of DB #2 yet

I have two kids (12 months, 3.5 years) in a little more space than that. We have a weird prewar layout so the baby has her own room. I find the space sufficient, but I couldn't deal with the kids sharing a room b/c I already lived in a teeny 1BR with #1 for two years and #1 wakes up a lot.
[ Reply | More ]Do you have 2 bathrooms? If so and if you have same gender kids, you could easily be there the rest of your life. 1150 seems huge to me. signed, in a 700 sf with 2 kids and not going anywhere.
[ Reply | More ]ITA. 1000 sq ft 2 bdrm and if we had a second bath, I'd stay forever. As it is I don't think I'll be able to stand sharing a toilet with three males forever.
[ Reply | More ]ITA. We have a bit more Sq ft (1350) but still 2BR, 2 BA, 2 boys and have no intention of leaving unless we suddenly come into a lot of money (and since i don't play the lottery...). I think parents today really feel that sharing a room is a bad thing and I guess I disagree. I know lots of kids who grew up in the city sharing rooms with siblings (both same and opposite gender) - even some who shared until 1 went to college.

we've been doing it since ds was born too and it is hard when they are learning how to sleep - poor little guy had no where to go to CIO... but (knocking on wood and crossing fingers) he has recently been sleeping in the TINY bedroom with dd and I am beginning to think we could stay a couple more months (ds is 6mo & dd is 23mo). We are looking for bigger space though...

Perks of living in Staten Island is the housing choices. We have a two bedroom, four story house. The basement is very large and our 13 year old has it all to herself- other than a little storage corner. Fenced yard and garage. We loved that for having kids. We both work in the city and the commute is the downside... drive to ferry, park, walk to ferry- or run-, ferry ride, walk to subway, subway to midtown and ues. But after seeing that place, we lost interest in the other places we'd looked at.
[ Reply | More ]yea....but....on the other hand.....you live in staten island! she said no suburbs. I dont care if staten island is officially one of our five boros. I have lived in Bronx (Einstein dorms as med student), Brooklyn (from age 0-18), Queens (for one year of internship post school), and Manhattan (college, during residency, and currently), and you seriously cannot compare SI to any of those! sorry!

sorry if I am one of the sole dissenters, but we felt cramped. we had 1,200 plus balcony, and 2 bathrooms. once DS2 was out of the bassinet, we moved. DS1 is a very good sleeper, DS2 was not-from teh start. so it just wouldve never worked out DS2 kept DS1 up, adn once DS1 was up, we were up because he needed stories, drink, snack, whatever. Loved our apt (luxury bldg, doorman, pool, gym, the works, awesome block, beautiful kitchen and i love to cook), but we ended up buying a brownstone just b/c we needed the space. we rent out the top floor to make some extra $ right now, the mortgage is ALOT higher than our rent ever was!!
