  • What do you think it is about women that makes us so bitchy with one another? We are all itching for a fight. Just look at these interactions. I bet I smile at you and you back at me when we drop our kids off at school. But as soon as we get into our UB dark alley, the gloves are off. Why are we like that? It's sad.

    • women are very busy sizing each other up all of the time - assessing what the other is wearing, how they wear their hair, what shoes they are wearing - as if it's a contest. i think it's nuts - I really don't care what you wear or how much you spend. Jealousy? Hard to say why but it makes me crazy! I'm sure in the town I live in the women don't want to be my friend with my crazy curly hair (how dare i not spend hours straightening it) and my Kohl's clothes! :)

    • I get shocked at the aggression on this website also. I'm not perfect and I have bad days but geeze!!!! I think it's easy for some people to hide behind a computer and speak their mind on here, no one knows your name and no one can physically harm you for speaking up.

    • It's all about the person who is judging and thus, bitchy. I think it's all about how you feel about yourself. If you don't like yourself, you try to either: 1) find company in misery or 2) put someone down so you can feel superior. At any rate, it's sad to me.

    • I feel like there's one or two posters who always argue with me when I post. Same writing style/key words and one time one of them brought up a prior post of mine in a new and totally unrelated post, as if she knew who I was. Does CNET have someone picking fights with various posters, or are there really people on here with nothing better to do than cyber-stalk posters?

      • I used to have a unique way of writing/posting something on UB. Never really thought about it. Just did it. One day somebody tied together like three or four replies I had written. It gave me a moment's pause.

        • it's funny. You can usually pick someone out when they have a totally antagonistic response, just once, on multiple posts. Other than that, can't figure it out.

    • UB's anonymity is like tequila. It gives fake courage to cowards.

    • I honestly think that there are only a few really mean women that go on this site. Because there will be days when everyone is very nice and helpful. There are a lot of witty women on here as well.

    • UB definitely brings out my snappy, mean sarcastic side, but mostly in response to other people's meanness--if someone pokes me in the eye I want to clobber them on the head! I do NOT understand the horribly mean, sometimes cruel responses to people who are in real distress of some kind, or the folks who are incurably judgmental about other people's choices.

    • I have said many times that I think it's ingrained in women to be bitchy to one another, some sort of survival-of-the-fittest mechanism. Everyone here flames me for that, but I truly believe it. Men are competitive, but they are up front about it. Women are conniving. I would always prefer to be friends with a man over a women.

    • It has more to do with the board's anonymity than with the fact that it's mostly frequented by women. When I went on male-only Usenet groups 20 years ago (yes, I'm an old nerd) it was the same bitchiness.
