Has anyone sold stuff on Craigslist? I have a lot of things I'd like to get rid of (nice maternity clothes etc.) - should I leave w/doorman and expect buyers to leave $$ with him too, or have them come up to apartment? I know there are crazies on CL and am wary of having them come to home w my little ones here.
9 replies [ Reply | Watch | Morei'm newly pg with first DC and need a lot of stuff! maybe you can let us know when you post on CL and then we'll reach out to you that way, but at least you'll know it's someone from UB so hopefully less likely to be a nutter.
[ Reply | More ]I buy a ton of stuff on CL. You can not expect the doorman to be your in between. The process can be slightly a pain, bc people will want to come by to "see" things and may or may not buy. But in general, virtually everyone I've interacted with through CL has been very very normal/ upper middle class. I would just make sure someone else is home whenever you schedule someone to come over.
[ Reply | More ]I sold a bunch of big ticket things on CL. Many people make appointments and don't show. Several people come and try to convince you to give it to them for free. Some people show up with cash and say thank you. Definitely talk to them on the phone first. Definitely have a friend or partner there with you. GL
[ Reply | More ]i sold a bunch on there. if you are too nervous, use ebay. if you have a doorman, why not meet them in the lobby? also, if i'm not home, i leave hte item with the doorman, and ask that they leave the envelope with cash with the doorman. done this a few times. i'm not so worrie dabout a $20 sale. I imagine if it were $200..
[ Reply | More ]1/2 the people will flake on you. There is usually some back & forth exchanges by email, maybe you can email photos of the clothes first to gauge interest. Generally, if the buyer gives first and last names, a contact telephone number, and the email address looks "normal," I'm not concerned. If you have a doorman, I would be even less concerned, as presumably, the individual has to be announced before coming upstairs.
