Greeting all (attempt #2...) I need some advice! I've been a Special Ed teacher and Behavior Coach for 20 years. I LOVE what I do and seem to be pretty good at it (please tolerate my bragging and let me say I was given two awards for outstanding service) Anyway, lately I have found myself more and more upset at the entire public school system (I could rant for hours...) But had one particularly bad situation where I REALLY let a student down (she really needed to talk to me, and being overwhelmed (200 students a day, meetings, parents calling, paperwork,) I forgot all about our meeting and left for the day. Without going into details, she had a very serious issue to deal with, and trusted me enough to ask for help. I'm having a hard time getting past this, and the bottom line is that just can't do my job the way I need to with the way things are in theschools. So here's my question: I'm considering being a private nanny. It's the only way I can think of to do what I'm beat at, but being able to focus on just a few kids at a time, giving them the time and attention they really deserve. But after reading many posts (not just this site,) Parents don't really seem to have a lot of respect for their nannies, and honestly, as a group, they don't sound more professional or effective than $7 an hour babysitters (NOT speaking from any personal experience, just the posts of strangers!) So please everyone... give me some feedback... what should I do? Are there even nannies who specialize (behavior problems, special needs, etc.)? Do you feel like your nanny is unskilled labor, needing direction and guidelines to meet your needs? THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for your help, insight and advice... I really need it!!

    • The families that will pay and need you the most are out there. You need to advertise on craigslist

      • Or ask pediatricians you may know if they can help or if you can post an ad. Also post at Parents League on E. 82nd. St.

    • Where do you live? In NYC, there are so many private SN schools where you can do great work in a much more humane atmosphere, with kids who will really benefit from you.
