Any ever had custom cushions made for a built in banquet in a kitchen or dinning area? We are in NYC and got a quote from a local seamstress, but it's $3200 and that seemed like a lot, but maybe I just don't know what these things cost? The bench seating is 4 feet long and it's two benches (two sides of a corner) and we need cushions on both the bottom and the back. Anyone know if this price is reasonable or know of any place else to call for a quote?

    • That's pretty high unless it includes the fabric and you are using something really high end (which really isn't advisable for dining areas anyway). Call or go to Beckensteins on 20th street - they do great work and very reasonable prices.

      • It does include fabric. Around $30/yard. Is that high?

        • $30/yd is not high for upholstery fabric. We are getting a 4 x 6 banquette reupholstered and it is significantly less than this, even w/ more expensive fabric. I would give them a call with your measurements and see what they say. We shopped around quite a bit and got wildly varying numbers.

    • sounds about right to me. always shocked by how much window treatments and cushions cost. when we did ours, we had the fabric laminated first to protect it, which i HIGHLY recommend!

      • isn't that uncomfortable to sit on? The place recommended scotch guarding it.

        • actually, it isn't at all - i would not spend the kind of money necessary to make the cushions without laminating. seriously. you will thank me.

      • there are a lot of fabrics out there that you can basically just wipe any food/drink stain off of - they have the scotchguarding and some kind of anti-absorbant filaments woven in. There are also ultrasuedes that are made just for this purpose and take wet sponge and soap.

    • Sounds quite standard sizing, did you look at companies like domain online, to see you they have something? you can send them fabric. !/8 th of the price. Custom upholstery is such a rip off. you might even wan to ask local drycleaners...take them a drawing. Often excellent stitchers work there.

    • This is ridiculously expensive. Go to NJ to have it done. Will be half as much.
