Does sex really help induce labor? I am 39 weeks, only 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated but do not feel like getting it on right now.

        • the prostglandins in sperm help but the uterine contrax you get from orgasm help also.

    • didn't work for me...neither the spicy foods or a few sips of alcohol. my DS was stuck in my pelvis in a transverse position. I had to be induced...I was frustrated, but he was worth the wait....More importantly, sleep now and put your feet up. 4 1/2 years later he's a joy, but exhausting! Trust ME!

    • There are actual studies on this, although it is difficult to design good ones. The general findings are that, no, intercourse does not affect onset of labor.

      • me too. I was so sick of being pg, 39 weeks and 2 days. contractions started about an hour after sex, gave birth the next day.

    • Can work but only if you'rwe already well effaced. I don't think it would do it for you at only 50%.

      • I was only 50% and I had my first contractions within minutes and went into labor almost an hour later so definitely worked for me.

    • Had sex around 3pm; went into labor a bit after midnight; baby was born at 6am the next day. Was four days past due date, so who knows if it was just a coincidence.
