  • I heard ps199 might have to turn away some families next year. Does anyone know who gets priority? Do out of catchment sibs take priority over in catchment incoming k kids?

      • catchment sibs get priority over catchment kids with no sibs. but both get priority over out of catchment kids.

    • In zone sibs, then zoned kids, then non-zone sibs, then everyone else

      • really? Nonzoned sibs don't get priority over new zoned kids? That's interesting. I predict many a fight.

      • That'll be interesting. Half of the families moved out of catchment (some never lived in catchment).

          • Not really for those who never lived in catchment. And there are quite a few. They don't deserve any priority.

            • i don't think that they deserve priority, but surely you can see this is not a fun situation for those who got in via lottery and assumed their younger kids could go there too. there is no question that their kids will come after in-catchment kids, in terms of priority, but it does make their lives much harder.

              • lottery is different than moving, imo, and very different than lying. There are, however, very few 199 families that came in through a lottery.

                • agree that lying about address is very different than getting in through lottery. no sympathy there! and i also agree that moving out of zone is a decision that has consequences, which everybody must realize when they do it.

    • According to the DOE stats 85% of the 199 kids in 2008 were living in the cachement. And only 4%

        • To the best of their knowledge. A lot of people lie about their address.

          • I don't doubt that. But if they lied about their address in the past they'll lie in the future and be counted as in cachement so those sibs will have priority.

            • some have said they moved and some continue to lie. Do other schools have this problem?

              • all the good ones, or so I've heard. The DOE policy that if you move dc and all sibs get to attend that school forever is ridiculous. Unless they can do a home visit to every home on the first day of K this cheating will continue.

    • I doubt 199 will be allowed to deny spots to in cachement kids until they first give up all the specialty rooms for regular classrooms. I understand the school is overcrowded, but if they are allowed to do this while other schools lose all their cluster rooms the public outcry will be deafening.
