    • there are other NYC transplants in your neck of the woods. Try to find them--that should help for a while at least.

    • It's a tough situation, but try to make the most of it while you're there. Where are you living? Have you been to Birmingham, Royal Oak, Ann Arbor? The summers are beautiful, esp if you head up north. Lived in MI for 15 years before moving to NYC, so I can relate.

    • I know this is a huge and difficult change, but try to enjoy some of the differences--maybe this will just be temporary. Go to a grocery store and enjoy the space--you can spin around with your arms out! I bet you have a backyard--that must be nice. Enjoy how easy it is to get away from the city for a day. Go out to dinner and marvel at how cheap the food is. I bet it will grow on you.

    • Where are you living? I grew up in Oakland County and still have lots of friends out there.

        • west bloomfield or bloomfield hills - they are two different places - although they are close together, the communities and the schools are really different. i bet the first step to embracing your new neighborhood is to know where you are!

    • ita with other comments. try to make the most of it. see it as an adventure! detroit is a very big city. sure it isn't nyc, but you'll find all the cultural and social events you can handle so just jump in. perhaps you can start volunteering. or, perhaps you can get a pt job. that may open the door to some social interaction.

    • I find it takes about a year to get that "NY is the center of the universe" out of your daily thinking. And you have to make a concerted effort. How long have you been there?

    • we have friends who made this move a few years ago. no, it's not the same, but it has other perks - way less expensive housing for example. good schools wo jumping through 1000 hoops. it just takes time to adjust.
