I'm not sure what to do. My MIL really is a mean person. She is perfectly nice to me and to my DD but she goes out of her way to be vindictive to most people, including my parents. About to have 2nd baby and she wants to come stay with us.. I sooo don't want he around but she does not live close by. how do i protect my sanity, my family, and still show some respect to DH who wants his mom to be involved too?

    • Just keep her so busy that she never interacts with anyone else. Use her.

    • I would just say, "Are you sure you want to come and don't mind helping out because the stuff we need help with is not fun. I'll need someone to help cook and clean and take care of (older dc), so that I can take care of the baby". This sets the tone because most people who come to "help" only want to deal with the baby and that is the exact opposite of what you really need.

      • Also, pick exact dates for her to come and go - that way there are no hurt feelings or confusion.
