If you could live anywhere in NY, and your dc could get into any school you wanted, what would that be? Public and private.

        • lived in a townhouse for 20 years - so glad we don't have to do it anymore! Vertical living in a paneled coffin becomes a bit tired.

          • Hmm, never thought of that aspect. I guess you would have to do a lot of stairs everyday.

    • I'd live in Carnegie Hill bc dc is at Dalton - I'd live in the part below 90th st so we could be zoned for ps 6 in case private didn't work out for #2 or finances changed.

      • Is ps6 very good? I know they say nice things on inside schools, but they say nice things about most schools.

        • Most UES publics as good if not better than 6 eg- 183 consistently rates/scores higher than 6.

          • I wish there were some other way to have schools rated. The quality of teaching, not the test prep. The happiness of the kids and parents, and the specials offered.

          • or: i have friends w dcs at both 6 and 183 and all are happy with the schools so i think you can't go wrong with either. my friends w dcs at 158 and 290 have issues w the schools. my point was that carnegie hill in ps 6 meets both my current and potential future school needs. the 183 district is too far from dalton.

            • My dc is at Dalton too. I guess I would wish that I knew 2 younger sibs would get in, then I would feel okay about moving to UES, into my huge mansion. Below 90th st, good point.

    • If I could take my house w/attached garage and .8 acre lot with my pool and magically plop it in manhattan, I'd put it in north west Tribeca. Also, all 3 of my kids would be super smart and get into Stuy (they'd go to 234 and then Lab for MS) and they would all be in the top 2% of their respective classes, that is what I would do.

    • Bay Ridge limestone with a large back yard, BSI followed by Mark Twain followed by Stuyvesant. I have the living arrangements, now just need to make sure the DCs get into those schools.

      • Wow, that's ambitious. For me, pretty much the same, although I'll take a Park Slope brownstone instead. I know it's a longer commute to BSI and MT, but I love that area.

    • We're on the UWS and at Collegiate now but I'd take a huge brownstone in Boerum Hill and St. Ann's all the way through in a heartbeat.

      • I agree, I wish I lived in Brooklyn, and had dc's at less uptight school -- I feel trapped in a situation of my own making.
