Taking an unofficial poll: how many of you were told the size and weight of baby in utero (told you were having a heavy/big baby) and then had a baby who was smaller? What was the difference (if you remember)?

    • Follow-up Question: Why was the prediction made? Did your OB/mid-wife just guesstimate? Or did you have a late-term sonogram where they measured the baby?

      • Mine was a late term ultrasound by my neonatalogist because I'm a Type I diabetic. I'm still surprised he was SO off.

    • Both my ob and the sonographer said my dbs were going to be 8-9 lbs. They were both over 10 lbs and I did not have gestational diabetes. It's pretty much a guessing game and the mom is usually the closest.

    • Both my doctor and the sonographer said big - I think it was 8.8 and 8.10 - db ended up being 8.11 (sono was one week before I delivered, doctor was 3 days before I delivered)

    • I seem to be the only one for whome the u/s measurements were spot on. Two weeks before I had db they said he was about 7.5lbs. He was born 8lbs even.

    • With #1, I was told 8-8.5 lbs and he was born 9lbs, 3 oz. at 40 weeks; it turned out my OB didn't want to scare me and tell me she thought he would be over 9, possibly 10 lbs. With #2 my OB (different one) kept saying she was glad it was a scheduled C-section bc he was measuring over 8 lbs at 38 weeks (both on ultrasound and when she palpitated my abdomen) - he was born 9 lbs. 6 oz. at 39 weeks.

    • first: was told 7 lbs. was 5.13 2d: was worried would be too big: born 6:12 - thought he was going to be 9. those measurement test are better at predicting baby is too small rather than too big. GL
