  • Ooooh, I've been in this apt for a party and it's so nice - wish I could afford it http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/475723-coop-790-riverside-drive-washington-heights-new-york

      • Can you say why? I'm intrigued by large apartments up there. (np)

        • I live in the nabe - people are really friendly and safe (and apartments are SICK), but it has no services at all - no nice bars or restaurants. But, it's close to Fairway and Fresh Direct delivers, and truly is a lovely part of town with a great vibe.

          • "SICK"? the only people that use this word to describe apartments are brokers on craigs list. eek

        • NP: I love in castle village in the hudson heights areas of Wash heights and LOVE it...8 acres of private grounds, river views, private playground and tons of families with young kids. Used to live on upper east and upper west sides and much prefer this.

          • I live in Castle Village too! Its beautiful here...so close to the fort tryon park(which in my opinion is the most gorgeous park in manhattan) and an overall friendly nabe, with restaurants, grocery stores, even a wine shop jsut a few blocks away. A great neighborhood for families!

      • I agree that this area of washington heights is not so great. But 181st/fort washington area has much better services, nice families, small town feel. But definitely not the uws if that is what you are looking for, more edgy (for better or worse)

        • Thank you so much, all of you. we are seriously thinking of moving up there. One of my concerns is that we won't "use" the city--won't get to museums and stores and won't see friends, who will be reluctant to come see us. Has this been an issue for you? Thanks!

          • your friends will rarely visit you tis true. as my kids have gotten older, it's been much easier to go downtown to museums/central park/etc. but it's tough with very little ones. many people up here own cars, and it's easy to escape the city via gw bridge.

            • NP - I live in the building - I am always on subway (1) with my 2 yo, take advantage of the city all the time precisely because it's not at our doorstep. People don't visit a ton but they do come.

          • I've not had this experience. The express A train is right there, and close to the 1 train too. Also, the neighborhood is right by the GW bridge yet easy to get to the east side by car as well.

            • the A train is horrible on the weekends. it can definitely cramp your style if you let it. but don't let it.

          • OP, I grew up in Washington Heights; It's always been terrific, with pockets of crap. The 'Hudson Heights' posters are clearly either contractors, realtors or believed those folks when renting/buying-there's no such place-outside of a sales pitch; It's the Washington Heights. There are great apts in the hood you've listed-are you the seller?I think it's too high for the Riviera right now.Fairway is 2 minutes away,UWS is 5 mins and it's one of the most convenient areas, multicultural, socioeconomically diverse and family oriented. Most often, people disparaging it don't like Riverbank,Ft Tryon,Bodegas or LATINOS.

            • LOL-ITA!! WH has always been a haven for artists, families, culturally rich and Hallelujah for the crash! Frank's Market in "Hudson Heights" thinks it's Citarella and we can't really use it,Thanks. We like our pre-war neighborhood with tons of space and history.

    • The maintenance is extremely high for that neighborhood. That's a red flag, imho.
