75/second. the area is quieter/more charming. close to equinox (74/second) grace's marketplace (75 & 3rd) citarella (75/3rd), jin soon for pedicures (73 & 1st) i could go on :)
[ Reply | Options ]please do! i actually fogot about grace's i love them....used to go there when i worked uptown....what else??
[ Reply | Options ]np: the 80's seem to have more college bars, the 70's seem to have more restaurants.
[ Reply | Options ]restaurant-wise, petaluma good for dinner w/kids, vero & uva nice for wine dates w/friends or dh (both on 77th &2nd) canyon ranch (76 & 1st) for mexican, slice for "healthy" pizza, tracy stern tea 75th & york. and the pool @ john jay park is not bad in the summer.

by the way, thanks people, for humoring me. i'm sure this is a ridiculous way to choose an apt. (but hey, it's just a rental) but it really kind of does help since i'm kind of stuck between two. not to mention that dh is no help whatsoever.
[ Reply | Options ]Proximity to subway, central park, shopping on 86th (without being too close). Also wouldn't want to be near all the 2nd ave subway construction--noise and displaced rodents.
[ Reply | Options ]i really don't like 86th st....wouldn't even walk there for shopping, avoid it altogether

does giggle have classes for babies and toddlers? are there other places in the area for music classes, etc.?
[ Reply | Options ]83 & 3. Not sure why but 2nd ave is just so depressing on every level - especially now with decades-long subway work. I live in 60s & 3rd and CP is an easy, short walk. BTW- Eli's is 80 &3rd. And the block between 2nd & 3rd happens to be a particularly long one... Walk the neighborhoods at different times when you'll be out.

Definitely 75th imo. I abhor the 86th street subway and that entire disgusting area of stores and gray's papaya, etc. The restaurants and shops are great in the 70s and parking is a lot easier, if that's a consideration.
[ Reply | Options ]ok good, i'm glad i'm not the only one who feels like the whole 86th area is kind of icky. what shops/restaurants do you like in the 70s? where can i get a good bagel/iced coffee....really dislike starbucks.
[ Reply | Options ]I usually end up at Dunkin because I'm always running late. But Lenny's, Beanocchio's, green bean cafe, green kitchen on the weekends.
[ Reply | Options ]I used to live there and went to 77th and lex pick-a-bagel a lot (right by subway). There's also a good bagel store (can't remember the name...Tal maybe?) on 78 and 2, and also another Pick-a-Bagel on around 77 and 2. As for restaurants, Baraonda on 75 and 2 is a great Italian restaurant (very fun, upbeat), Bar Italia is great (76 and 2), and we loved Cafe Buon Gusto, as well, which is on 78th bet 2 and 3. Sushi--Haru on 76 and 3 or Sato on 73 and 2 (I think). And as for shops, there is Searle, Scoop, Wink, BCBG, Big Drop, and Shoe Box on 3rd in the 72nd to 77th range, and then Pookie & Sebastian on 77 and 2.
