what is the best place to find a great nanny? Craigslist kind of freaks me out, just looked at sittercity - - other suggestions would be appreciated. I'd prefer not to go with an agency but happy to know about good experiences there too. I'm just starting my search and it's been disappointing so far...TIA!

- I also found a wonderful sitter on Craigslist, and interviewed about four others who I think would have been fine. I think it may also depend on whether you're looking for full or part-time.

- If you just checked out sittercity you must know that they are all there to be found. It's not new anymore so everyone who is seriously looking posts there.

- I posted on big city moms and babybites for my nanny as well as CL. My nanny hasn't found anything yet. If you're interested in a recommendation from a UB mom I would be happy to talk to you and give you her contact information.

- in nyc? Prenatal yoga center has a website with a huge nanny classified section- some moms are looking to place their nannies whom they've had for a while but they have to move, etc. etc.

- we placed an ad on craigslist for 24 hours and got 85 responses. (2 years ago... I can only imagine what it would be now) We chose 20 to contact and interviewed about 12-15 of those. Then I spent half a day with my top 3 choices and the baby to see how we clicked. Ran background check on our 1st choice which came up clean, checked her references, and offered her the job! It's been over 2 years and has been wonderful! You just have to layout what your criteria are and see how the people you meet match up. It is daunting, but not impossible. Good Luck!
