    • clean, comfortable clothes. DD went to most of hers in her favorite Hanna Andersen dress and leggings. You want DC to be comfortable, not squirming around in clothes they don't like or have scratchy tags or whatever.

      • Our DD actually had a "playdate outfit" that she picked out herself: a Hanna Andersson jumper with a turtleneck and tights. She said, "I always wear my jumper for playdates." I was like, whatever works for you, honey.

          • She's what 2 y/o - not possible to be "too cute" at that age - they are all too cute at that age. Too overdressed, sure. Too cute, not a chance. Let her wear what she likes - she'll be happier that way. GL.

        • Oh, whoops, I posted about what DD wore to ongoing playdates. Compared to the stiff party dresses and big bows we saw at some of those playdates, DD (we're downtown too, BTW) looked casual. Don't remember what DD wore to preschool playdates, so it must have been whatever was comfortable and fit her.

          • I remember those outfits. Those poor DDs. For the ongoing playdates DD graduated from HA to Tea Collection dresses and leggings. And we're UWS.

    • our FC preschool (ues tt) specified comfortable play clothes for the play date. most parents in our group still sent their kids in dressy clothes, which was a big mistake. dd wore black yoga pants and a fleece shirt--one of her favorite outfits--and she was totally comfortable. make sure it's something your kid has worn before and likes, and try to avoid anything cheesy or character shirts. and make sure they're wearing comfortable shoes, non-itchy clothing, etc. and dress them in layers, in case it's hot or cold.

    • I dressed DD in nice, cute outfits that were easy to move in but looked less like play clothes than say jeans or cords. Since at 2 you are still picking out their clothes, choose what you like but do keep in mind that comfort for the DC is important as any weird tags or seams could cause difficulties in a new situation like a preschool playdate. Good luck.
