Going for an HSG on Monday. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

The pain was a very very sharp menstural cramp. I turned beet red. Some spotting immediately after and no pain followed.
[ Reply | Options ]I think the anticipation of this purportedly uncomfortable procedure was worse than the actual HSG. The only truly painful part is at the very end of the dye dispersion but it honestly lasts about 4 seconds. Like others, it feel like a very acute menstrual cramp. Felt fine afterwards and think you should manage well with a couple of Tylenol before (and after if you feel like it). Good luck!

This part really hurt but supposedly it was unusual, the nurse said she's never seen it take so long. Once it was in, it was okay -- the dye feels like menstrual cramps when it goes through your tubes but it's manageable. I would advise taking a strong painkiller first. Like if you have anything left over from wisdom teeth or anything -- take it. Once the test was over I felt fine, though.
