Does anyone know exactly why pregnant women should not receive the nasal spray H1N1 vaccine? Whenever I search, it just says that it is "not recommended" for pregnant women, but it doesn't say why. I am nervous bc I received the shot and now think that I may be pregnant and was perhaps pregnant when I was vaccinated.

    • Because the spray has the live virus. The shot does not and you said you received the shot so you have nothing to worry about.

      • so the only reason it is not rec is because you may have symptoms if you get the nasal spray?

        • I think so, especially since pregnancy weakens the immune system. I believe that other countries are okaying the nasal vaccine for pregnant women and the US is just taking the conservative route.

    • I think the nasal spray has the live virus in it, so can make you a sick if your immune system is weak (i.e. when you're pregnant or are less than two years old), while the vaccine/shot has the dead virus in it, so is safer for pregnant woman and babies.
