    • I think the NYC moms use this board as a local forum. I'm a former NY mom and I read their posts and get nostalgic, and then relieved that I don't have to deal with their preschool woes.

      • Ditto that! We left when our DS was 8 months old. He's now 3, so I'd be in the thick of all that preschool application crap...so glad that I'm not. But I do really miss my friends.

      • ITA! The UB mommies seem really competative, brand/money centered, and needy! Too priveledge too know better. But they amuse me like the little monkeys they are...

    • I'm not NYC, and I've found that this board is actually full of very supportive women. Sure, there are crazies, but that's not a NYC thing. I do avoid all the school-themed posts, mostly because they don't have any meaning to me at all.

      • i live in the deep south and i don't think nyc moms are any different than moms anywhere else. there are some who are nice, some who are helpful, some who are clueless, and some who are mean as hell in every group....

    • I think NY moms are definitely more competitive, measuring their child's success against that of other kids. It happens everywhere, but it seems amplified in NYC, and it's hard not to when everyone around you is. My SIL lives in an expensive suburb and the self-promotion is incredible. I think that's also a NY thing- not with everyone, but a lot of people seem to need to project that for business, so it just filters down.

    • I'm in D.C. The big difference that constantly jumps out at me is the high number of NYC moms who have disordered thinking about food. If two drops of high fructose corn syrup pass their dcs' lips at a party, well clearly this is a high crime and someone's head must roll. Perhaps the dc should have a charcoal purge? And speaking of purge, it's also fun, yet disturbing, to read all the 'I gained 11 lbs in my first trimesters; is it safe yet to diet in your 3rd trimester?' type posts.
