      • BMI=25.6. overweight. also BMI is much more forgiving for shorter people- 25 is a more than generous BMI for 5'2". I am 5'8" and I could weigh 164 and still eb considered normal weight. I would be very heavy at 164.

          • it is not making people crazier. BMI is much friendlier than the old weight charts that were used, or the rule of thumb for every inch over five feet you get to weight 5 pounds over 100. Americans are getting fatter, the least we can do is stick to the BMI chart, which is more than forgiving on both ends (though less so for the very tall); unelss you are a competitive athlete and 100% muscle. With her rolls doesn't seem like she's an athlete-

    • Make the time. Change your diet so you're eating less sugars & fats and more vegetables & friuts. And tell your husband he is now in charge of the house and the kids MWF from 7 to 8 pm while you go out walking, and then on Sat & Sun take the kids out and do something physical with them.

    • I was slightly overweight for lots of my life but have in the last 3 years dropped down to healthy thin. It started when I learned about food production in the US. Basically, once I learned how gross most of the food we eat here is, I couldn't go back. Now, I eat only organic healthy, delicious, food. I am particulary strict about the meat, eggs and dairy I eat, making sure that is pasture raised. Seriously, seeing the videos on the humane society of cows getting pronged in the eyeballs in order to keep them alive enough to be slaughtered for us to eat - NASTY. Who could eat that?! It's self limiting but not in a diet "i should" way. Also, I drink green tea in the morning... yum. Much happier thinner, it affects everything.

    • Try Atkins. You'll need 3 hours to learn how and what to eat- all the info is on-line. You can get a weeks worth of menus for each meal on-line. Make a grocery list, and begin. In 10 days, you'll drop about 8 lbs. Yes, half will be water-weight but you will feel great, your clothes will all be loose, people will comment how much thinner you look, and it will inspire you to continue and in another 2 weeks you will have dropped a total of about 15 lbs. 5 will come back when you go off it. I have done it after every baby, and it's the only way I can truly lose weight.

    • If you are uncomfortable, and not happy with your weight, do something about it. Take a break, join WW, taking an hour a week to get out of the office will be good for you, professionally, and personally. Walk to another subway station, get off a stop early, take the stairs at work. Walk to a park to eat your lunch. Exercise can add up and doesn't have to be so formal and you can steal time in little 5-10 minute chunks without much hardship. As far as diet goes, cut out bread, anything with corn syrup, and have an apple as a snack, that will make a difference right away.

        • NP: I so agree. It will make you change the way you eat, and probably start exercising. I now it feels impossible now, but you can work it in there. I am 5'2" and after my son, I got up to 123. Which for me, felt AWFUL. I know everybody is different, and at that weight I had no energy, couldn't fit into my clothes, and hated the way I looked. I started WW on the recommendation of some friends who were also new moms, and now I am down to 110 and it is such a world of difference. You change your life, you feel so much better, and after a while it doesn't even seem like a lot of effort anymore! You deserve to feel good.

    • ita with the statements that you are not fat. if you're normally 110 and trying to fit into those clothes, however, then you may well look fat even if you're not. My suggestion is to buy a few outfits that both fit and flatter you, and then work on the weight loss.

    • I know how that it is! First of all, don't hate yourself...you can walk, talk, can see, have all your fingers and toes...it is society that makes us feel that weighing more than the avg is terrible. That said, I weighed the same amt as you do and I am the same height and i didn't feel comfortable and hated myself for it. What actually really helped me was WALKING. I started walking everywhere and stopped taking subways. I didn't have kids at the time but also went for walks almost every evenging after dinner as well. Gym was overwhelming and stressful. Eat the same b-fast every day, try to make your own lunch and allow for a snack in the afternoon - yogurt (plain!) and cookie -- and walk to work...skip subway stops if you need to, just walk, walk, walk. Keep the body moving. Instead of calling people on the phone at work, walk to their desk, take stairs.

    • OP, I have been there and done that and in a month when I deliver, I will be there again. One thing I can tell you is that hating yourself does not help you lose the weight. Join WW as other people have suggested. It works! Appreciate the good things about yourself, your eyes, your breasts, your brain, loving nature, whatever, but don't hate yourself. Also, I just read an article that turned the whole concept of exercise and weight loss on its ear. I still believe in exercise in part because I enjoy it, BUT you can lose weight without it at least in the beginning AND I guarantee once you start to drop the weight, you'll WANT to exercise. Good luck!
