when do most kids stop wearing pull-ups at night? dd will be 4 in 2 weeks, has been toilet trained during the day for a year (very easily trained) but still wears a pull-up at night that is soaked every morning. we've cut out liquids after dinner. what else should we do? is it normal for a 4 yr old dd to still wear a pull-up at night? for how long?

    • i am doing the 3 day potty training and we woke up on day one and I had my son throw out diapers and that was it. No pull ups. He slept the first two night dry and was wet the third. The writer of this approach says no liquids two to three hours before bed. I t has been working for us so far.

      • 2-3 hours before bed can be a problem for WOHM. If bedtime is 8 that would mean dinner would have to be over by 5 or 6. Just not possible.

    • normal. day and night training are totally different. day you can teach young. night requires neurological development (of course you can do some training too) and each dc is different. I would say if she's soaking every night, she's just not ready yet. I would still try the usual - no liquids before bed; take to pee at midnight; positive reinforcement. But I would not be punitive at just 4yo. #1 learned at night by 4yo, but #2 was not ready until near 5yo.

    • #1 was 2.8. #2 is 3.6, and she's been out of diapers at night since 2.4. I, however, should have been wearing pullups at 6. Depends on the kid.

    • yes, it's normal. My older child is 7 and still wears pull-ups at night, even though she was potty trained at 2.3. My younger child stopped needing diapers at night at the same time that he day-time trained. Both are totally normal. Our ped has told us that it has to do with production of a hormone, combined with being a very, very deep sleeper.

    • My son was 9. We had to get that alarm thing. pediatrician was not real concerned but about age 9 he said: enough. Otherwise he will not be dry until puberty.
