    • I think they're more worried about you bringing swine flu. I went to pick up my mother from the airport last week (flight from Shanghai) and almost every other person getting off the plane was wearing a face mask.

    • Are you the Flushing poster? Do you think somehow China is more disease-ridden then say, England?

      • I loved it, especially Shanghai and Hong Kong. I don't know why OP seems to think it's some third world country. Shanghai and HK are just like NYC.

        • I am OP and do not think China is a third world country! As I wrote below, I work for WSJ and I go a lot. I was just wondering about the antibiotics because I suddenly came down with tonsillitis a few weeks ago and wanted to have something in case it came up again.

          • I wouldn't because I think antibiotics are overused. You mean you plan to self medicate right?

            • I got them, and only plan to use them if I clearly feel that I cam getting tonsillitis again. I agree they are overused.

        • "third world" is a a Cold War term. China is a rapidly developing country.

        • OR: uh, no Shanghai and HK are NOT just like NYC. I lived in HK for a year working (only foreigner in my firm, all else were locals), no it's not. Yes, the luxuries are there and so are amenities, but average everyday life is not like it is here unless one only frequents and hangs out with only expats and their locales. that said, the difference is why i am hankering for china. if these towns really were like nyc i wouldn't be bothered to be interested.

            • sorry was only there for 2 days, stayed at peace hotel, did the bund and pudong tower, very western activities. local street markets were interesting, contemporary art galleries were burgeoning (nonstate owned are most interesting). the urban planning was really crazy. the roadsways were something from a scifi movie.
