  • What are your thoughts about creating a baby registry for a 2nd dc? Nothing excessive, just basic things we did not previously purchase for 1st dc or need new/updated items. I would not "advertise" but I know family and friends will want to buy us gifts anyway...

      • IDA. If they're asking they want to know what you need. People won't be sure what you can re-use from first db and what was worn out or is a new and improved item that you'd like.

          • OP: I would not ask for something like an exersaucer - I'm thinking diapers, clothes (if needed, depending on gender), maybe some feeding stuff since ours is really worn out.

    • no reason not to create it. i just wouldn't mention it to anyone unless they ask if you are registered, and where.

    • I went ahead and registered for my second, bc my first was a girl, and second was a boy. Mostly registered for clothes, diapers, no big ticket items. For my 3rd kid, if people asked what to get, I said diapers/wipes, onesies.

    • Registries are a little too "gimme". Keep a list in your head of what you need, and whenever you or your spouse are asked, be just a little politely sneaky about it, like you don't really care, but you know your husband/wife would be thrilled to have XYZ this time around. And I don't know what happened to all of the best friends in the world. It used to be the best friend's job to find out what was needed/wanted and then spread the word, because while it's impolite to ask for specific presents, we all know that we all want to help out and bring useful presents whenever a new baby is born.

    • I did - mostly so I could send dh to the store and he could print it out and get the right things - and never mentioned it to anyone. Interestingly, some of dh's colleagues wanted to get him a group gift and on their own found it and purchased several items on it.
