Any HR people out there? Have an "issue"-applied for a job in my company, asked HR if I should, was very encourage, was told by the person who was leaving it that I would 'never get it'. I didn't it. Did not mention to HR what she said. Emailed HR to get more information on the rejection. No response. Saw HR rep walking down the street, she sees me and quickly turns the other way. Then the director of my department pulls me into her office and asks me why I wanted it. This is after I am fully aware that I did not get it. Then I am offered a "cross training" position with the department so I guess I can work for free for that department but not good enough to be full time?? What's up?

    • what does that mean, you'd work for free? aren't you getting paid your regular salary? and why isn't it ok that you didn't get the job?

        • you can't be expected to work at your job for the full number of hours while also training for the other job. are you being hysterical? in any case, will the cross training result in a job offer? are the skills you'd be learning useful? is the other department a step up for you?

    • I hope the position you were rejected for did not involve writing. I tried but cannot understand your post.

      • lol. here's what i made from it: she applied for a job in her company, they rejected her by email, are avoiding a face-to-face meeting, and then told her she has the opportunity to train for a position in the other department. she's very insulted and wants to know what she should do.

        • I don't see why you should be insulted. People get rejected from jobs for all kinds of reasons. If I were you, I'd cross train for the new position. In this economy and especially if you want to get in your desired department, you need to show that you can step up and take more responsibility. People take on addition duties all the time.

    • I understand your post, but don't have insight into why you didn't get the original job. Can you speak to the person who left that job to find out their thoughts and what you think you can do to progress? I would also talk to the director about your general career path -- where you want to go, what you want to do in the company, etc. you need information to push forward, and you need people to sponsor your development. maybe your director is trying to do that -- have a conversation to see if the x-training job is a step in that direction.
