Some parents have asked what dd might like for her birthday. Our family does a gift exchange at Christmas and many of us have amazon.com gift lists. DD has one. Would it be in poor taste to tell the parents who ask what dd might like about the amazon gift list?

      • So I should just give them a list of possible presents?

        • yeah, it sounds better I think. I usually tell parents - "ds saw ___ at someone's house or the store and i know he would love one"

        • no, you don't give a list of possible presents. you say something like "she likes arts and crafts things" or "she likes pretend play". give them a general type of gift, not a list of specific gifts.

    • It's okay to tell them what she likes in general (specific sports, kinds of games, favorite characters) but it's a little rude to send people to a wish list unless they specifically ask for it.

      • People have specifically asked. Personally, I don't like this question at all! I wish ppl would include a gift receipt.

        • If people have specifically asked for a wish list or store registry, then give them the link, but of course always add, "but really, it's not about the gift, we'll just be so glad to have you there to celebrate with us." Everyone knows it's not exactly true when it comes to little kids, but it's a nice thing to say and to hear. :-)

    • How old is DD? I usually say books or puzzles when someone asks for my DS (who is 4). Something that is easy to find and reasonably priced. We have an amazon wishlist too, but that is something my family knows about and a few very close family friends.
