Did anyone read the Times article today about spanking in schools. Turns out there are 20 states that still allow corporal punishment. And disabled students are spanked more. Horrible.

    • It doesn't surprise me that it's still on the books at all, but it would surprise me to find out that there are public schools taking the risk of using it and incurring lawsuits. It seems more likely that the schools using it are private schools and that the parents who send their kids to those schools are aware and approve. Corporal punishment encompasses a lot more than just spanking, too, like the old ruler-smack on the palm of the hand or standing in the corner.

      • Paddling -- having he child bend over and hitting his/her butt with a wodden paddle -- is alive and well in public schools in the South. It always has been.

    • i just saw the same article and i was really surprised. i have no problem with a parent spanking but i don't believe it should be allowed in schools and i don't like the idea of a child being spanked by someone other than his/her\ parent.
