So does anyone have a dc who has had academic success in math/schience and is already in HS or a high middle school grade who only learned TERC? The way it sounds on here and on the Internet, it's a form of child abuse and our dc's won't be able to keep their own checkbooks or price items at a store even. WTF?

    • My child is entering 6th grade, excelled in math, only learned TERC, no supplementing (and knows her times tables as well).

        • They memorize them by doing multiplication, if nothing else. Sort of like 1st graders learn mental arithmetic even if no one is drilling them on 2+2. Or learning sight words through a variety of methods as opposed to having each one taught to you separately.

    • My dc learned TERC, loves math and is doing well, but we did a LOT of math and science supplementing at home.

    • If you're looking for happy stories, you'll probably find some, but you should also know that TERC is unequivocally a terrible math curriculum and you should plan accordingly.

      • ITA. If your kid is at all good at math, TERC will only slow down what they might otherwise enjoy learning. It might be fine eventually, because your kid is talented enough - but that's a far cry from saying it's a good program.
