The older I get, the more anxiety I have about flying. Every bump scares me. I usually take a valium but my fear always keeps me alert and freaked out. Any tips or suggestions to overcome this? Thanks.

    • I believe there is even a course given to help frightened flyers. Saw it once on the news but I know nothing else about it. I actually once sat next to a pilot who explained just how safe a plane is, this helped me a little (versus other modes of transportation).

      • i agree. Try chatting with the crew if you can. Some flight attendants told me some stories about crazy (but completely safe) turbulence where the carts and trays going flying all over the cabin. Whenever my flight gets bumpy, i just think about those wild stories and it helps put the rocking an rolling in perspective.

        • op: i never venture to the back or front really to chat with the crew, maybe i will try this. the best flight i had once was when i was seated next to this 14 year old, very well mannered kid from SC. he was super chatty and kept me distracted the entire flight.
