Do you 'enjoy' spending time with your kids?
- Yes, most of the time we really have fun together
- Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's really dull and aggravating
- Honestly most of the time it's not fun at all, but it's not supposed to be fun
- I really don't enjoy it at all, and wish I could spend less time with them

Anyone else in NYC have a hard time getting milk that won't go bad in a day in the summer? I've tried 3 different stores around me and 2 were bad when I opended them, 1 went bad a day after opened. All were bad at least 5 days before the stamped date.

op: I thought about that but I figured it wouldn't last even as long cause it has no preservatives
[ Reply | More ]milk doesn't generally have preservatives, and organic can go bad as easily as non-org.

^^http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=experts-organic-milk-lasts-longer - it lasts longer because it is ultrapast. as is parmalat (non-organic)

we spend between $150 and 200/week which is probably a bit higher than the grocery store. It's worth it to us because of the selection and convenience. Our local supermarket doesn't have nearly the selection that FD has and also we both work full-time and have no car so it's just a PITA to go shopping.

np: ditto. Our FD milk last a week no problem. Non-organic Farmland. I find FD prices to be comparable or less than Gristedes or Food Emporium, on average, of course on a given day any one item can be different. SOOOOO worth it if only to not have to deal with the heavy items and saves so much time in terms of going to supermarket (even if you get delivery).

Ultrapasteurized: heated to high temp for a brief time; kills microbes and extends life of milk, but still requires refrigeration; ex. eggnog; fruit juices. Ultra high temp pasteurization: heated to very high temp 280F for two seconds; completely sterilizes; can be kept unrefrig for 6-9 months; very popular in europe; used for milk like Parmalat; prob - debate that it may reduce nutritive content of the milk.
