  • okay, sorry to bring it up again, but....diane schuler's husband quoted in the news saying his wife drank maybe "twice a year." is he lying? just was so disconnected from her he knew nothing about her? or could it really be true that she had some kind of medical problem that made her go into meltdown mode and get wasted?

    • i'm starting to think it's just CYA. he's in big legal trouble if he knew she had something to drink that morning before she left.

    • Any of the above are possible & we don't know & may never.

    • The police say the pot smoking was 15 minutes to 1 hour before the crash. There was undigested alcohol in her stomach so that was consume way after she left the campground. I don't think the husband could be in trouble for knowing her condition that day. I think she decided to commit suicide and for whatever reason took those kids with her and thought nothing about the people in the other car.

      • yeah, but if she was committing suicide, and she might have been, then i would hope her husband had some idea of the frame of mind she was in. rather than just saying, "i don't understand it, she never drank."

    • I think if she was an alcoholic and managed to hide if from the family we'll see guys from the local liquor stores in the press saying she was a regular. Everyone knows about this story, her photo is all over the news, somebody must be recognizing her. And the other family's attorney will be looking for those people.

        • I'm going to need more than one unnamed source. The mother worked days, the father worked nights. So for her to be a regular at a bar she was paying a babysitter to stay with her kids while she drank. I'd find it more beleivable that she was drinking at home after the kids went to bed or even sneaking some while at work.

    • This woman was not an alcoholic or a drug addict. She snapped. She chose to kill herself and took the rest with her. It will be proven.

      • Unless there's a suicide note they won't be able to prove suicide. And there's no way to prove somebody snapped as opposed to having this planned out for weeks (which, I agree, is unlikely).

    • The NYTimes this morning said that she worked days and he worked nights and they didn't see each other much Monday-Friday, so he could feasibly not be lying but still be wrong. The poor 5 y/o DS that survived the crash probably has more answers than the DH does.

        • OR: I didn't mean the day of the crash. But he might know more about what his mother's actual lifestyle and mindframe was than his father does (within his own frame of reference, of course). Maybe I'm projecting, but my father was an alcoholic and at that age I definitely knew certain facts about what he was doing that my mother didn't, even if I didn't know that they were "wrong" (passing out on the couch when he was supposed to be "babysitting", drinking beers while driving, etc.)
