Sorry, I stepped away - a choice school is like 150 or 212 where you can apply to it but it isn't based on academic tests (like a g&t program). My children are older, and back then every single person at 3 wanted to be there because if they didn't they went to 41. But its different now and when you have a progressive school with people who want traditional education, it serves no one well.
[ Reply | Options ]so your dc doesn't currently go to ps3, in other words. and you have no clue what the situation in the zone is, you're just spouting nonsense. there can't be a choice school just to make the hippie dippie progressive types happy when even two zoned schools aren't enough. the way to serve people well is to dismantle the progressive curriculum at 3 (which wasn't any good at this point anyway) and institute one closer to 41's and the doe standard. everyone's expectations would be met and no one would be unhappy getting "stuck" at the progressive school it's infuriating to listen to someone like you with older dcs try to dictate what's best for people whose circumstances are night and day from what yours were. next time answer a post that's relevant to you.
[ Reply | Options ]Calm down lady. My dc is a current student at ps 3. Believe me, the curriculum is not hippie dippy and is almost identical to ps 41 including all the test prep nonsense that is at 41. My dc had to do math sheets first thing in the morning in her 2nd grade class. This nonsense is what makes parents afraid of ps 3. It's not the 70s anymore people.

people here get way caught up in the convenience aspect. i guess i think of it differently. don't believe in k - 8 model in publics at all.
[ Reply | Options ]Why not? MS is such a miserable place for majority of the kids it seems. And even if you are in K-8, nothing says you have to stay for MS, you can always apply out. You just have an option to stay, which kids in K-5 schools do not have. Makes the 4th grade tests hell for many of them.

Dc went to Hunter and I used to love it, but if I could change one or two things, I would have taken dc out while it was still fun and before the HS beat dc down.
