    • Me! No housekeeper (I love to clean and don't want anyone else cleaning my stuff), I spend about 100 every three months on my hair and makeup (if that), my child goes to a great nyc public school and we live off of about 60K

      • How do you clean? We have 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, I work full-time, and DH works more than full-time. I never feel that I have a completely clean, organized house.

        • organized is different than cleaning and requires much more mental activity. So - skip that - I clean for one hour a day on weekdays and we ALL clean on Saturday mornings. I often pick a "big project" like cleaning the kitchen cabinets for a Sunday afternoon, but that isn't in the normal rotation.

          • Good point. How do you stay organized? I have a family calendar, an alphabetical filing system for family papers, pay all bills one day a week, take in drycleaning the first Saturday of every month, etc. Is that the best way to do it? HOw many hours a week do you think you spend cleaning...total?

            • You should like a natural orgainzer to me. The MOST important rule in organiztion is a place for everything and everything in its place. Few ever achieve that (especially with children as their stuff keeps changing). But that is the focus. I spend 8-10 a week, but dc and dh clean too - so the "man hours" are probably more like 12-16.

                • My next step is make 10% of the room available. Meaning, that 10% of the space on book shelves should have nothing on them - to make way for new stuff, same for closet, same for kitchen cabinet. This is a hard one, haven't gotten there yet... but going to give it a try.

    • I have a nanny who does housework, get 2-3 haircuts a year for about 100 each, do my own color (the 10 min stuff because that is all I have time for), send my son to public school, and have a HHI of 300K plus. (that makes 2/4)

    • Ah, a "normie". I don't have a housekeeper, kid goes to private, but a nonexclusive private and spend a little less on my hair. So nice to meet someone who isn't a wealthy.

          • I think it might give "Normies" "permission" to respond. I had asked earlier about organizing/cleaning and all I got were responses from those with nannies/housekeepers. Nice to see the other side of life, but not at all helpful.

    • Me, I don't want a nanny bringing up my kids; don't want a housekeeper touching/looking through all my personal papers/stuff, and don't spend a ton on hair/makeup.

    • Me. No housekeeper, don't wear make-up at all and only get my hair done once every 2 months, and my dd will go to public school soon.

        • With great difficulty; I'm declined in these areas. I'm also very private and don't like the idea of a cleaning lady going through/touching my stuff.

    • HHI is 300 and change but I get my hair cut every 3-4 months for $50. Nanny but no housekeeper (does that count)? Planning to send DS to public

    • right here! i know it seems as if this place is saturated w/those people sometimes (and good for those who have all that stuff!) but it's not. there are a lot of us who don't want strangers in our house cleaning our stuff and raising our kids, and who are pretty low-maintenance.

    • me! no housekeeper, get haircut 3 times a year and don't wear make-up (do get pedicures), went to boston college so not bad but not top tier, and am in grad school so our "combined" income is around 80,000.

    • sort of me. i don't have a high HHI but i send to a very good private and therefore can't spend hundreds (or even dozens) per month on my personal appearance.

    • Yes, but I am totally different from the typical UB poster. Recent college grad, unmarried, and I work as a babysitter 2 days a week. I personally would love to have a housekeeper once a month--scrubbing grimy toilets doesn't add much to my life and I would not be ashamed of having one. Even if a person does have a housekeeper, it still takes a lot of day to day work (dishes, laundry, etc) to maintain a house.

    • Point of this post is...? Sounds like a bratty teenager could easily fit that profile. Mom counts as the housekeeper.
