Return to talk

When our direct next door neighbor smokes the cigar, it smells extremely bad in dd's bedroom. We have just moved in (it is a rental) and have just realized it. What can we do about it? I am suspecting that it is the reason why the lady who was living in the apartment moved to another apartment within the same building. Any advice?

    • Can you talk to him about it in a friendly way? Do you have a Super you can talk to? Pleasant note through his door etc. Confrontation is always tricky. GL

    • As an ex cigar smoker, I'd have tried (within reason) to be sensitive IF you brought this to me in a nice way.

    • this happened in our apartment, and the super put in some kind of filters that helped (the smell must have been coming through a vent or something).

    • Buy an air purifier and put it in her room. Also shut any vents that may allow smoke to seep through.

    • I would start with calling the super and seeing what your options are. They should probably initiate the complaint.

      • actually unless its a smoke free building you cant lodge a complaint--i suggest you ask him to smoke in a nother part of his apt as a favor to you and offer to buy him one of those machines that east the smoke and neutralizes the odor--they arent very expensive

        • np Ditto. Go to super first, then do this. And act like he's doing you a huge favor to use the machine (because he is, really). I hate smoke, but people have the right to do it in their own homes (unless the whole place bans smoking).
