Please explain to me the RSVP thing. Not only do people not do it but what about the people that RSVP say they will be there and then don't show up, no call, nothing. It's so rude to say you are going to be there and then not show up. Especially when extra supplies have been bought for you.

    • All I can say is we should all model good behavior to our children by including them in the process of responding to an invitation promptly and following through. Our only hope may be the next generation.

    • Ugh. I call it the "Party Tax". Is the fee you have to pay for hosting a party. LOL. Usually I over invite by about 20 percent and it usually even out between the cancellations and the no-shows. I also call all those who have not RSVPed by the date. It's a pain in the ass but helps you get a better sense of who's coming and who isn't.

      • ^^^ I know it's tougher if you are having one of those "paying by the head" parties. Sometimes I'm tempted to have a guest list and put my enforcer on the door which is usually my SIL, lol, and have her look at the list and tell a non-rsvp-er that she and her child cannot come in because they confirmed. LOL. But then they'll just look petty.

    • It's that they try to keep themselves "open" in case something better comes along--so they don't commit.

    • I know. I arrange a group get together, and if 60% of those who say they are going to show up show up, then that is a good percentage.

    • i hate it, it's one of the worst examples of bad manners i can think of. if someone does this to me once - without there being a ridiculously good explanation - they are never, ever invited again.
