          • If you looked at the unconnected kids who don't offer diversity of some sort in the average tt class, there wouldn't be many kids who don't have 98 or 99.

            • but everybody is diverse in some way. schools are trying to create a class so getting in may mean they didn't have any connected dcs that had the same prototype as your dc. also schools are looking for fit. and they do their own assessment.

              • Diversity is about race, low income, same sex family. Most apps aren't diverse. That said, most applicants who are accepted because they offer diversity also have fairly high scores.

        • Wow I wish you would stop implying that students who do "offer diversity" have lower scores. My black dd and all her black friends at her tt have 98s and 99s. She has the only 98 actually.

        • money (billionaire type money); legacy; sibling; celeb. Fwiw, a connection of the uncle on the board variety will only help move a kid from a wl--won't turn an outright ding into an acceptance.

        • You're right. We were very happy to get into Nightingale. It's a wonderful school. It's just that with 99x3 we were surprised to be rejected everywhere else - even at schools with a reputation for being a little easier to get into like Hewitt. My point was just that it is hard to get in without connections even with a 99x3.

          • Hewitt and Marymount and even CSH would expect a fc (which they can no longer solicit) from a high scorer.

            • You're probably right. We were rejected at these schools with a 99x3, but it is quite possible that all three strongly suspected that with a 99x3 we were unlikely to say "yes" to anything other than B, S, C or NBS. Our PSD knew that Hewitt, MM and CHS were not our first choices. Our rejection at those three might well have been pre-emptive.
