PS11 Moms: Did you enroll your K child in their afterschool? If not, are there other alternatives that you know of? Thanks.

    • The after school program is great. Lots of fun choices. It also very reasonable priced!

    • I didn't when dc was in K. I posted before that the afterschool staff seemed grumpy and mean when they picked up the afterschool dcs from the classroom and I was glad that I hadn't. (I witnessed it every day as back then in K pick up was at the classroom door). I asked dc if he wanted to do afterschool in 1st grade and he said 'no'. I just never bothered after that.

    • I don't know. Maybe....and maybe it's not the same people anymore picking up the K kids...I don't see what goes on anymore with that...it was 3 yrs ago. Honestly, if you have to do it, you have to do it. They weren't beating the kids.....if you have no choice because you work, it will be fine. The kids I know who didn't like it had moms who didn't HAVE to put them there and the kids knew it. Also, I have a DS who only liked sporty things and there just isn't that much to choose from due to the fact that sports usually requires a big space....it seemed like 75% of the choices were things that would appeal to girls.

    • My DD loves afterschool. Since K, she's taken swimming, science, tumbling, circus, spanish, arts and crafts, yoga, caeporeia... has loved them all. We do not have to send her, and neither do a lot of her other friends -- they happily choose it. The ones that do "have" to go (two working parents) "get" to have 2 sessions, which my dd begs me to allow her. I want to see her at the end of the day, so she's only allowed one per day now, but that's a pretty good endorsement. A big benefit is she's gotten to know other kids in her grade and other grades as well, adding to the great community feeling of the school. Fantastic asset, imo.

      • and other than swimming, science and spanish, the other 5 activities don't really appeal to boys
