NEST parents - how well do you feel you know the school? I fear that because of the commute, etc., I won't really get a feel for what it's like there for DC. I woh, but I want to get involved, so I'm happy to volunteer some time if possible. TIA.

    • I WOH but have a lot of flexibility at work. At NEST there is the opportunity to be there constantly. I was probably there volunteering or for various events at least 1x/week last year, but certainly could have done more if I only worked PT. And I do feel like I know the school very well after all of that! (and like it very much, fwiw)

    • I felt like for K -- between drop off every morning and parents as reading partners I got a good sense. Then there was the class mixer (one family hosted a cocktail party for the class.) That was great. Add a few events at the school (Fright Night is HUGE) and the class presentations -- it seemed like a good feel. This year (1st grade) much less so about school because we took bus (but it was a "known" at that point) and still comfortable with class.

    • You will get a feel for the school early on. We have been there for years and wouldn't trade it for anything else. Perfect academics for my children and they love it there. There are many ways to volunteer. Book Fairs, Fright Night, Holiday Pie Sale, etc.
