  • So our nanny took the baby to the park today and applied sunscreen to him but he looks tanner and his ears are burnt. WWYD? I am supersensitive about exposing him to the sun.

    • Can you apply the sunscreen in the morning yourself to make sure it's really on there? If not, maybe even show her exactly how you want it? I know this sounds silly but, for example, my dh is olive-skinned, and I and ds are super pale - ds a redhead, even - and dh has no idea how important or exactly how to apply properly to areas like ears and back of neck, etc. Also, HAT! Good luck - I swear I spend half my waking life applying sunscreen to myself and ds. Thank goodness, dd takes after dh.

      • Thanks. Well, I guess my point is that he really shouldn't be getting that much sun if the nanny makes sure he stays in the shade. For example, I took him to the park on Sunday for a couple of hours and he stayed completely in the shade and didn't tan, etc. He's only 6 mo.

    • well sunscreen works incontantly and rubs off with sweat and exertion over time --so you freak either buy a black glass bubble for him or back off

    • remind her about the ears (we all forget them every once in a while) then move on. The only perfect SPF is a jacket or a roof.

    • Many people still tan, even with loads of sunscreen applied regularly. As long as she doesn't miss his ears & reapplies don't worry.

    • Tell her not to have baby in direct sun. I think age for sunscreen is 6 months, btw.

    • HATS are the solution, just make sure they cover the ears.
