can some wise person tell me: is there something going on developmentally for 7 year olds? all of a sudden, dd seems to be throwing fits and tantrums over the smallest things. i don't know if this is a stage; if something is actually wrong in her life...or what. but i'm getting very frustrated.

    • great book I'm reading about modern kids....Childhood Unbound, by..I think the name is Ron Taffel (it isn't right at hand). Recommend it for those preparing to deal with the drama and rudeness

    • As someone who went through a traumatic event @ 7, do you think you can do a little digging to make sure she's safe first? I'd hate for you to brush this off as a phase if there was something more sinister at hand, but I by no mean intend to scare you....

    • My second dd did something like this too. But she would get all weepy and cry at the drop of a hat. I did get very worried, and like the poster above suggested, tried to dig to see if something had happened at school, at a playdate, at soccer, etc. It really was none of that. I think she might be hormonal already. She's 8.5 now, and it has gotten a little better, but not completely so. She was crying at the breakfast table because she didn't like her tee-shirt. By the time she had finished her cereal, she was happy again.

    • There is a great series of books called by age, e.g., Your 3 Year old, Your 7 year old, etc. I checked out Your 7 Year Old reviews on Amazon (where frequently you can get a good summary of the whole book), and Diva behavior...dramatic, histrionics is typical for this age. I just say: I'm here for you if you need me. Call me when you need me to help you. I don't try to "fix", I just let the storm pass and let DD know I'm there for her.
