Can I eat frozen fish which has been thawed and refrozen? DH accidentally left the refrigerator unplugged all night and it would suck to have to throw out all our frozen stuff, esp. the fish.

      • Old building, wonky wiring. DH had to do something in the kitchen and if he didn't unplug the fridge, the fuse would have blown. Then he forgot to plug it back in. We had a wonderful conversation about it in the morning.

    • As a person who has had food poisoning, I'd toss it out in a microsecond. Sorry. :(

    • I think I'm in the 'toss it camp' and I'm usually pretty daring and risky when it comes to that stuff like that.

    • the issue is two fold. How cold was it when you discovered and if it was still cold, what is it going to be like when you thaw it a second time. I would have cooked it today. Make a fish stew or chowder, etc.

      • I poked a Boca Burger and it was squishy. So, the fish must have been just as thoroughly thawed. The freezer was cool, but definitely not cold.

        • So the food probably didn't begin to rot. BUT thawing and refreezing is horrible for food.

    • I've always read in my cookbooks that one should not thaw and then refreeze meat. Not sure why, but I've read that in a lot of places.

    • I would cook everything then refreeze it. That should work since I do that all the time.

    • That's definitely a no-no. Throw away the fish and any other food that wsa in ther and forget about it.

    • if the refrigerator door was closed the whole night, the food should still be good. and the stuff in the freezer should definitely still be frozen.
