Return to talk

do you still have a "bedtime routine" with 7yo dcs? it still takes 15 min. of winding down and I told 7yo dd we need to abbreviate the bedtime routine and she got so sad. she is otherwise great, so maybe I shouldn't take this away. the routine is reading together (sometimes me, sometimes her), talking about our days, rubbing back, goodnight kiss, etc. about 15-20 min. total. wdyt?

    • sounds like a wonderful way to spend 15-20 minutes a day. there will be a night in the future when she rolls her eyes when you ask for a good night kiss - enjoy the time now imo.

    • that sounds lovely. if you don't want to do it you could move away from it. i would enjoy it, but if you don't want to do it you don't have to.

    • you are nuts to give this up if she wants it. You will regret not having that "talking time" as she hits tougher years, and many parents get frozen out

      • Are you crazy? "Still" takes 15 minutes? And what, pray tell, would you RATHER do in that 15 minutes?

    • ita with all previous posters. I have young dcs so am still in the thick of protracted toddler bedtime routines (killing me!), but I have a friend who has a 10 yr old who won't let her hug or be cuddly with her at all any more, and it's killing my friend, even though she knows it's normal preteen behavior. Enjoy it while it lasts. And why would you risk making your dd feel rejected? Stop that.
