Do you 'enjoy' spending time with your kids?
- Yes, most of the time we really have fun together
- Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's really dull and aggravating
- Honestly most of the time it's not fun at all, but it's not supposed to be fun
- I really don't enjoy it at all, and wish I could spend less time with them

I know this seems like a long shot, but you never know... my god daughter has had horribile abdominal pain almost every night (it stopped once for a few months) for more than two years now. It gets a bit better and a bit worse, but she is always in great discomfort at night. She has had endoscopy, colonoscopy, been tested for Chrons and colitis and gluten intolerance, had an MRI, been treated for non-existing parasites, and been seen by a shrink, but I don't think it's in her head. Anyone been thru this ? The term "abdominal migraine" has been said, but that solves nothing... Anyone ? Suggestions ? She is 9 yrs old.

i just found the term "functional abdominal pain" for children. how terrible. it doesn't seem that uncommon though. which different diets has she been on? acupuncture? herbs?
[ Reply | More ]she has stopped gluten, stopped dairy as well, then tried eliminating anything with artificial dyes, chemicals, etc. None of that had a bit of luck. She eats pretty naturally anyway. Acupuncture is next on the horizon though...
[ Reply | More ]she should see a nutritionist. the diets have to be strictly adhered to to isolate what might be causing her a problem. enzyme analysis will show if she has the correct blood work levels for all of her organ functions - an enzyme deficiency could be the problem. it is concerning/odd that it only happens at night. does she ever skip a night? what about when they are on vacation? is it ever worse/better?

i have a friend who had a similar problem - undiagnosed abdominal pain for 2 yrs, but she is 29. After many tests (including the ones you have listed) it eventually turned out she had a cyst in her bladder. Removed, some treatment for inflamation in the area, and it's gotten much better.
[ Reply | More ]my 7yo dd gets abdominal migraines and honestly, it sounds nothing like this. I hope you can get to the bottom of it. Have you seen a specialist?
[ Reply | More ]she has seen every pediatric gastro here and they say they cannot find out anything, but she is a very normal little girl in every other way... I cannot believe that it is in her head and neither can the rest of the family... She just wants the pain to stop and she is so frustrated that all of us "grown-ups" say we don't know the answer. her mom is beside herself...
