WWYD? 4yo dd struggles at gymnastics (once a week, since 3.5yo) - at home practicing too, she seems clumsy and falls down a lot. Yesterday she wanted to play a pc game and I said she could if she would bear walk forward across the room and backward all the way back without falling down. she does it in like 30 seconds, no falling, really quickly, no clumsiness. What the heck!! 2 days before she fell down every step of the way trying to go backward. Is she faking? Does she just need motivation? I am not sure how to process this sudden change in performance. WWYD?

    • Maybe she isn't really into the gym and needs the motivation to concentrate.

    • I had exactly same experience with dd. Finally I figured it out: at this age ability to concentrate well (which is required in gymnastic) is very uneven. We were about to drop gymnastics when she suddenly started doing well at about 5.5 yo.

      • OP - Thanks! I thought I was losing my mind or had some drama queen dd...a big fear because my older sister was known for pretending to faint and other complete drama shows (still a drama queen, but not so obvious about it).

        • No, my dh used to do gymnastics, and he was teaching her at home (additionally to the classes), and he would get frustrated and even angry. He thought she was fooling around. So he stopped. A year and a half passed, and this summer he saw her cartwheels and handstands, and he was blown away.
