  • On the outside my life seems perfect. 3 amazing dc’s going to great schools, nice apt, great job, lot’s of friends. But inside I’m a wreck Dh and I are on the brink of divorce, bills are piling up—can’t sleep at night w/o a few glasses of wine. If it wasn’t for dc’s I would take the easy way out.

      • honestly I think most therapists have more issues than I do. I just have to get though this time and I have no one to talk to since most of my friends are also friends of Dh and I don'twant to air our dirty laundry so to speak.

          • doesn't mean all therapists are bad at what they do -- some are good, and if you have no one to talk to seems an obvious way to try to work through things

            • I don't like my therapist on a personal level, but he gives good advice. I don't think it's about "who has more issues" in their personal life, it's about getting good advice that helps you. My guys a jerk, but his advice is helpful and he very qualified to be giving it - Harvard prof as well as private practice.

    • THERAPY! THERAPY! THERAPY! But if you're not into therapy, get some anti-depressants to take the edge off and get to changing your life. Most people know the changes they have to make, even without therapy, but most people don't want to have to do the heavy lifting to make change.

      • whatever the change is that you have to do, break it up into tiny steps so that it isn't such 'heavy lifting'. What is the problem that bugs you the most right now? Marriage, or the bills?

    • focus on the things that you have going for you and you do have a lot and then realize that some things are not going to change and that many people have the same or different types of stresses. if you could change something, like shaving off some lifestyle expenses, that would be a good place to start. will that ease the stress of you and dh? maybe, maybe not. but it couldn't hurt.

    • Find one thing you can change..and focus on that. Maybe it is the bills, maybe it is the relationship with DH, but concentrate on one thing. Trying to tackle everything all at once will just exhaust you. Pick the one thing which make the most impact in your life.
