  • DS is turning 2 next week. Our families keep asking what they should get him. Would asking for contributions to his 529 account be inappropriate? He has a million toys and books, there really isn't anything else that he needs.

    • I don't have qualms about that with close family (at least my own side - I make dh give the suggestions to his side), but my mother cannot resist buying toys.

    • we made a rule in our families that they could get 1 thing and anything else they wanted to spend had to be towards college or an activity (an art class or whatever) bc the grandparents wanted to spend $200-300 and on toys for a 2yo that was ridiculous.

    • At 2 yo birthday I asked for checks or toys for Toys for Tots. It gets harder to do the next few years when they actually expect presents, but at 2....a couple little things and they are set!
