ignorant newbie mom here: are the afternoon public preK school hours really 12-2? that short? what are the morning program hours? Can you believe I CANNOT find this on the DOE web site? a hint of things to come? full day hours? 9-2? thanks!!!!!

      • no, i'm filling out the application now and it specifically makes me choose AM, PM or for some schools but not all, full day.

      • I think it depends on the school somewhat. Friends w/ dc at PS 40 definitely had part-day. Our dc went full day.

      • depends on the school. Many schools have full day, many have two half-day programs.

    • Two hours is about right. Half-day pre-K is not day care. They "teach" your children stuff and then you pick them up. Even full-day programs don't have more than 2 or 3 hours of "academics". The rest is free-play, lunch, and napping.

      • i'm not even thinking about the academics, just the logistics of drop off and pick up while also having a baby. preK is definitely not day care. that is clear!
