  • I am at my wit's end with 14 1/2 mo ds nap schedule. He's refusing to take 2 naps a day (afternoon nap is impossible) yet he gets up so early 5:30-6:00 he can barely make it until 11:30. The last two mornings he's woken up at 5 and by 8:30 was ready for a nap but then won't go down for an afternoon nap. This has been going on for at least a month. Driving me crazy. Anyone with advice. Last nite I put him to bed at 5:45 but he just woke up super early this morning.

    • 14.5 mos can be the time your ds is giving up his morning nap. my dd did this around 15 mos, and at 23 mos now she sleeps from 1-3pm every day. i could've delayed the change in naps (she still yawns a lot mid-morning) but when i tried it was a disaster.

      • --just re-read your post...you need to push him past 11:30 just a few minutes every day until he's sleeping around 12:30 or 1. dd was napping at noon initially and it made late afternoons very very hard. but within a few weeks she was on track and life was much easier.

        • I know. I've been trying but then he has a bad day where he takes only a 1 hour nap and then has to go to bed early which means he wakes up early. What time does your dd wake up? 5:30 is SO EARLY and I can't figure out how to push it back.

          • i hear ya. dd now goes to bed 7 or 7:30pm, naps 1-3pm and wakes at around 7am. sometimes earlier depending on what 3-ring circus is going on in her diaper. for a while she was going to bed at 6:30pm and waking up at 5:30am...it was rough so i know what you're going through. i just found really fun activities for her to do right before she started nodding off at 11:30...play doh, special lunch etc. eventually she got used to it and now sleeps really well in the afternoon (sometimes 3 hours!!). GL!

    • he is ready for one nap a day. I actually think if he wakes up at 5:30 then 11:30 is the latest he should have his one nap- my son wakes up around 8 and his nap is at 1. So he's awake 8 to 1, sleeps 1-3:15, and then awake from 3:15 to 8:15. I am not sure how to get your son to sleep later. I have a good sleeper and we've always geared him towards an 8 am wake up time (so we can get ready before he gets up).

      • I have never encouraged the early wake up :( Would love to get ready before he's up. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Thanks for everyone's advice

    • My ds moved to 1 nap at 15 months. It took us a month of some days one nap, some days two. You have to be flexible during the transition. Gauge how tired he is and adjust for the day.
