why are there more teenage pregnancies down South than NYC area?

i think teenagers are a lot smarter about birth control and sex here. in the south, a lot of religious kids feel like using birth control means you are planning to have sex, which means that you've thought about it and it's not a mistake. bad kids use birth control. good kids might have sex because they slip up now and then, but it's not a regular thing they plan on doing. that approach is not very good for preventing pregnancy!
[ Reply | Options ]Kids in the south have abortions when the get knocked up so they can hide their "mistakes" from their religious families. I know women in their mid-30s who have abortions because they don't want to let their "Christian" parents down. Also, there are a lot of "born-again virgins" in the South because of religion. Ick. In NYC people are just more educated and don't have as much religious ridiculousness to deal w/ so they make better choices.

Fifty percent or more of teenage pregnancies end in abortion in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. • By contrast, teenagers in Utah, Kentucky, South Dakota and North Dakota had the lowest abortion rates. These states also had fewer than 17% of teenage pregnancies end in abortion: South Dakota, Utah and Kentucky.
